The company: Differentology are a market research company based in the Northeast who specialise in media research. We rip up the rule book and like to do things differently (it’s in our name after all). We thrive off new ideas and unique viewpoints and are looking to bring in 2 interns for a placement to experience the exciting world of media research and bring fresh new ideas: 1 placement in Research and 1 placement in Creative. Whilst these positions are initially only for 6 weeks in duration (Tues-Thurs), if there is a good fit for both parties then both positions could lead to future opportunities.

The role: We are looking for an intern to spend time in our Research team, specifically working with our Quantitative Research specialists on advertising effectiveness projects. You will report into our Culture Manager for the duration of your internship.

You will be helping out the team and conducting a range of tasks including:

  • Learning about how we conduct and design research for our clients to understand the impact that advertising campaigns have on consumers
  • Owning quality control of projects by checking survey links and reports that other team members have produced to ensure that we deliver reliable excellence in our work
  • Crafting questionnaires for our online surveys and learning about best practises and biases
  • Building benchmarking files for wider project comparisons to understand data trends
  • Creating stylish insight reports from live data for our clients to show the effectiveness of their advertising campaign and what they can improve in the future

Qualifications: There are no required qualifications for this role, but we are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following skills

  • Strong analytical and number skills
  • Being proactive
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Good mindset (being an energy-giver rather than an energy-taker)
  • Strong communication
  • Sense of accountability and ownership
  • High standards of work
  • Ability to simplify and remove unnecessary complexity from tasks
  • Inquisitive about the world Owns and pushes their own development and knowledge

All work will be conducted in English so a strong grasp of the language will be required.

Location: You will be required to work in our Newcastle office (which is based in Ouseburn).  Flexible working options are available, but this will be expected as the norm to allow for easy engagement and connection with the team during training.

Duration and availability: The internship will be for 6 weeks.  These weeks should be taken consecutively. The internship can start at any time of your preference in the 3 months.

Compensation: You will be paid £10.42 per hour. You will be expected to work 22.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day) with a schedule of 9am-5.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. This includes an hour lunchbreak and multiple screen breaks throughout the day.

Throughout this time, you will accrue 2 days of annual leave.  These can be taken during your placement, or the hours can be added to your final salary payment. If you have any pre-planned holidays in the window of your internship, please let us know before you begin so we can schedule your work around them.

Our values: At Differentology, we find our strength in our difference.

Whether we are standing out with our projects in a busy data market by presenting them in a creative way or celebrating the beautiful patchwork quilt of backgrounds that make up our people. This push for innovation and distinctness helped us win the Market Research Society Breakthrough Business of the Year in 2019.

We prioritise relationships and understand that people are what is most important in business. This includes making sure our clients enjoy working with us in addition to getting a bespoke project designed to meet their needs. Also, our focus on hiring based on skills and personality leads to a lovely bunch of self-motivated staff driving the business ever forwards as a collective.

Our Clients: A sample of clients we have worked with in the last couple of years include Global Radio, Sky Media, HSBC, BBC, Harrods, TikTok, ITV, Cinema Advertising Association, ASOS & Paramount

Diversity Pledge: We value difference – and we mean it! We want our people to truly reflect the UK population so need lots of people who bring completely different perspectives.  We aren’t looking for culture fits, we are looking for culture additions. To this end, we focus on making our workplaces welcoming and adaptable to everyone. Some of our most talented and creative people have a neurodiverse profile and we encourage staff to voice any adjustments we can make to help give everyone the individual tools to succeed in their role.

This includes during interviewing, so if there is anything we can do to accommodate you (such as bringing notes, whiteboards or more time) we are happy to provide.

So, no matter what you look like, where you are from or how you think, we want to hear from you!
