The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.

The FA oversees England international teams across men's, women's, youth and disability football, as well as running the National League System and FA Competitions including the Emirates FA Cup, Barclays FA Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, and Vitality Women's FA Cup, and the world-class facilities of Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park, all with a purpose to Unite the Game and Inspire the Nation.

The Role

We are searching for a Data and Insights Manager, who will maximise the value of data & insight available to our FA Education department, enabling in depth interrogation, tangible recommendations and evidence-based decision making.

You will lead on the application and activation of insight to inspire, inform and enhance the learning and coach development offer. Analyse, identify trends, and ask questions of dashboards to enhance understanding of FA Education's customers & learning landscape.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure comprehensive understanding of (FA Education's) strategy and provide a critical lens to ensure recommendations are strategically aligned and impactful.
  • Report, present and influence the FA Education Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders to make accurate and confident decisions to effectively deliver our strategic priorities.
  • Manage the collation, consolidation, and synthesis of insight (from third parties, internal sources, and primary research) that supports the work and strategic direction of FA Education.
  • Drive cross functional dissemination events that enable broad & strategic discussion, utilising data (qualitative or quantitative) and analytics as its evidence base.
  • Support & challenge colleagues to use a centralised, aligned, and standardised suite of data dashboards to support their work, helping to drive a ‘self-serve' culture.
  • Identify data trends and utilise analytical techniques to interrogate and glean further insight from data collected via primary research and of dashboards and data held across the department.
  • Lead and manage external research agencies in delivery of projects and research relationships with HEIs to fill knowledge gaps in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead FA Education data and insight working groups.
  • Work with key stakeholders across FA Education and other FA divisions to identify and prioritise data and insight requirements and demonstrate how they can add value.
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

What we are looking for?

Essential:

  • Ability to present insight and tailor analytical output to seniority of audience, landing the ‘so what' and tangible impact it has on their day-to-day roles.
  • Excellent analytical skills, highly capable of interpreting both quantitative and qualitative data and third-party research reports.
  • Proven ability to work within complex or matrix structured organisations and galvanise people within non direct reporting structures.
  • Proven record of writing and reporting to senior leadership level.
  • Experience of managing research projects
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills.
  • Presence and gravitas to work alongside senior managers.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Comfortable working within teams as well as being able to work effectively autonomously.
  • Experience of 3rd party agency tendering / procurement.
  • Able to conduct both primary and secondary research.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of football / previous experience within sports industry.
  • Experience of managing research projects ideally in an education or sports related industry.
  • Experienced in producing automated, visual analytical solutions using interactive data visualisation tools e.g., Power BI.
  • Has worked in research agency / consultancy and gained experience aligned to essential research skills.
  • Proven ability to work across a wide range of stakeholders internal and external.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of agile scrum development framework.
  • Understanding of the importance and requirements to develop the next generation of coaches and young players.

Please be aware that unless you are on a homebased contract, your contract with The FA will specify a fixed location of either Wembley Stadium, St. George's Park or our Processing Centre.

We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
