 Insight Manager – Sense:lab

£35,000+ depending on experience

Leeds

The role

This is a key role in the Sense:lab team of Blue Yonder. As we develop, and more clients come on board, we need to expand our senior team.

Our Sense:lab team are best in class R&D researchers. A passion for products, innovation, and how people experience them in their day to day lives is critical to success in this role.

We are looking for an Insight Manager who is experienced in high level project management, passionate about product testing, and can deliver clear actionable results. We are looking to bring in more experience, but more than that, we need someone who can explore a client challenge, design a solution, and make it happen, regardless of method.

The ideal candidate will have experience of running product testing research (CLT, HUT, online etc), has worked internationally as well as in the UK, and is willing to travel. We do need someone who is willing to get their hands dirty. Someone who can talk big picture, but also fundamentally enjoys research as a craft.

They will also have coached and line managed graduate and junior insight people, and have a track record of creating small, engaged, happy teams. Experience with a range of newer, digital, or neuro-based tools is a plus, but we can teach this.

We can teach a lot, so the mindset is also key: Willing to learn, great client focus, entrepreneurial problem solving, detail orientation and collaborative by instinct.

Here’s the key points of the role:

  • Take full ownership for project managing multiple projects, delegating to (S)REs, and communicating clearly with the Operations team.
  • Champion and deliver high quality across client service, data collection, analysis, and delivery.
  • Independently manage the workload of the team across multiple projects, flagging issues to the RD as necessary.
  • Nurture and grow own accounts, with the help of team leader.
  • Delegates effectively the operational aspects of insight creation.
  • Line/performance manage execs, developing their insight skills, and ensuring clear and rewarding growth plans are in place.
  • Regularly mentor and develop REs, providing clear feedback as needed.
  • Be a champion and role model of Blue Yonder values: entrepreneurship, authenticity, positivity, partnership.
  • Ensure timelines are kept, and end deliverables meet the brief.
  • Review and develop with the team discussion guides, analysis plans, accurate and impactful insight stories, and proposals.
  • Lead presentations and workshops, reporting edit creation, increasingly unaccompanied by and RD.
  • Accompany senior team members to client meetings or leading these independently. Able to independently understand client issues, proactively suggest solutions, and design winning proposals.
  • Taking ownership of moderation, travelling to clients or fieldwork unaccompanied.
  • Consciously look and seek opportunities to create impactful innovation and improve Blue Yonder/client’s businesses.
  • Ensure the Blue Print is followed on all projects.
  • Ensure projects are accurately costed and run on budget.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting of financial data into sales overview, and accurate timeline PO, and invoicing instructions to accounts.
  • Proactively identifies unmet needs with clients, including for future Blue Yonder innovation.

Welcome to Blue Yonder

We have four values above all others, and they combine to create our culture.

Positivity and Entrepreneurship

We’re a young agency, growing all the time, in more ways than one. We’re no longer a start-up, but we’ll never lose that mentality.

It’s all based on asking clients one question; what do you need? The many answers to that question lead us into new spaces, new partnerships, and some exciting new tech. It’s all about new things, learning, keeping it simple, moving fast, working together, and solving problems.

We won’t pigeonhole ourselves. We simply innovate to answer clients’ insight challenges. Could be R&D, could be category, could be brand, could be market entry.

They’ll be times when we don’t immediately know the answer. This is when the best people shine, the ones who can break a challenge down, and solve it simply. The Positive people. Sometimes they do this alone, sometimes they do it with others. Sometimes it’s a piece of coding to solve a data issue, sometimes it’s a new perspective, sometimes it’s a new patent capable of changing the industry!

What do you do when faced with a question without an answer? Is that stressful or exciting?

We’re not a big corporation, and we don’t want to be. It means you won’t spend your days on emails, ‘managing stakeholders’, and deploying someone else’s brainchild. You’ll spend your days getting things done, working with clients on fresh Impactful Insight, talking to consumers to make sure they get the products they need, and collaborating with teammates with different strengths to yours to find smart solutions.

Authenticity and Partnership

You’ll be trusted on day one to express yourself and get things done. We’re a supportive bunch too. It’s about being brave to run with your ideas, but also to seek out the views of others, or just ask for help when you need it. We’re an energetic place. A relatively small group doing a lot of different things. Trusting each other and communicating well is very important.

Digital innovation moves so fast that it’s impossible to do it all ourselves. That’s why we focus on building partnerships. Blue Yonder is a hub, the point where many others meet. Agencies, platforms, coders, app designers, artists, animators… We need people who like meeting new people and figuring out ways to collaborate.

What’s it like at Blue Yonder

We like to think we’re an innovative, creative, fun, interesting, decent kind of people to work with. But you should judge that for yourself when we meet :-)

We work hard to make sure we pay well. 25 days holiday is the standard. Healthcare is an option for senior roles. And we’re very flexible. We already had one day a week at home as standard pre Covid. Now we have committed to allowing people total flexibility to work where is best for them and their teammates. Home, office, testing facility, café, beach… it’s up to you as long as your work is top class, and your teammates are supported.

We don’t have set hours, because we’re not a shop. It’s more about making sure the work gets done between us to a high standard. We use tech to communicate and make sure everyone gets plenty of time to enjoy what matters most to them outside of work.

We don’t really do unnecessary fluff, so we don’t have a long list of ‘perks’. We promise a flexible environment and if there is something that’s important to you (be it a bus pass, a charity day or a specific day when you need to pick the kids up) let’s talk.
