The BBC are looking to recruit a Senior Audience Research Executive with expertise in quantitative research to sit within the World Service Audience Insight team. This is an exciting time to join. The business has been growing and is looking to evolve its services to meet future generations. Outside of the UK, BBC News reaches 438 million people every week in English and 41 other languages. It delivers news across many platforms, from FM radio, to YouTube, social media and nearly everything in between.

As part of the team, you will get to play a key role in the continued growth of BBC News’ international operations. You will get to work on the BBC’s Global Audience Measure which involves building a single customer view of the business and be directly involved in audience measurement projects – covering face to face, phone and online methodologies. You will be involved all stages of quantitative research, from commissioning and survey design to overseeing fieldwork, analysing data and reporting.

This is a one year fixed term role based at New Broadcasting House in London (W1A 1AA).

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage tasks throughout an entire audience research project lifecycle, from commissioning research to daily project management, to analysing results, and presenting findings to stakeholders across the business.
  • Supervise agencies in the delivery of successful quantitative projects– this will include taking a hands-on role in designing sampling, weighting approaches, and writing questionnaires and other instruments.
  • Turn information and data from current and previous research projects, and external sources, into a meaningful story, which can be effectively understood, and acted upon by stakeholders who are not experts in research.
  • Ability to analyse large sample (1000+) datasets and convert into practical insights.
  • Ability to move within multiple projects in a given day.
  • Collaborate effectively with the rest of the Audiences team.
  • Support wider team with larger projects as part of a project team.
  • Experience of working with digital (web and/ or social) analytic tools would be beneficial.

Are you the right candidate?

  • This role will require you to lead on / take independent charge of multi-disciplinary/ multi method research projects.
  • A deep knowledge of quantitative research methodologies and rich experience of doing/commissioning quantitative research is critical – especially of face to face and phone interviewing.
  • You have a proven record of working on / leading projects which have had a demonstrable impact on an organisation
  • Demonstrable ability to synthesise data/ insights from different sources and arrive at strategic recommendations will be essential.
  • Experience of “media industry standard” audience measurement approaches with ability to use analysis software such as SPSS and SNAP as well as AT Internet for web analytics analysis.
  • Great communication skills and ability to work with rest of diverse World Service Audience Insight team
  • A keen interest and appreciation of the cultures, peoples, and current affairs of other countries/ markets and research experience in international markets (especially Africa, Asia and Middle East) will be a plus for the role.
