The BBC aims to stimulate and delight audiences across the UK with distinctive, creative content. To support this aim, BBC is entering a new charter period of significant and exciting change, developing new capabilities in order to define a BBC fit for the next generation.

This role sits inside the digital insights team within the wider World Service Audiences team. The post holder will make use of digital analytics data (including web analytics, social analytics, social listening and competitor benchmarking tools) to help journalists, product managers, marketers and business development teams understand their audiences and make better decisions.

Main responsibilities

Reporting to the Data Analytics Manager, BBC World Service, the post holder will be responsible for key projects being delivered across the business, ensuring the highest data quality results and recommendations to the business.

You will lead on delivering regular performance reporting at a genre, service and country level which impacts on decision making at all levels of the business, from the strategic to the tactical. You will also take responsibility for ad-hoc research and analytics tasks, servicing our divisional partners’ requirements with a degree of independence from the rest of the Audiences team.

The ideal candidate

Essential skills needed for this opportunity include:

  • Experience and knowledge of digital analytics tools (e.g. AT internet, Adobe Analytics)
  • Ability to work with large sets of data and present findings in a clear and concise way
  • Experience in using marketing digital analytics systems (e.g. Smilarweb, comScore MMX)
  • Able to simplify complex problems into component parts and deal with them systematically
  • Familiar with a wide range of advanced Excel formulas/Excel VBA
  • Experience with data processing and manipulation tools such as Alteryx and BigQuery
  • Open to change - respons flexibly to new challanges and keen to seek out new ways of doing things
  • High perseverance, resilience, and creativity to be able to handle the pressures, challanges, and setbacks of working in global markets
  • Experience of data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Note: STEM degree is not essential; relevant experience and ability is
