Do the research behind inclusive digital services to help keep the nation safe.

The Home Office plays a fundamental role in maintaining the UK’s security and economic prosperity. We are driven to keep citizens safe and the country secure by leading on immigration and passports, refugee protection, counter-terrorism, policing, fire services, and crime and drugs policy. Help us shape the future and deliver exceptional public services that work for everyone.

As User Researcher you will play a key role in enabling us to deliver ever-better services. The Digital Data and Technology department designs and builds digital services to support everything from visa and passport applications, through to policing, counter-terrorism and border protection.

As a valued member of a fast-paced delivery team, your research activities and rapid analyses will inform policy, proposition, service, content and interaction design. Put simply, you’ll be instrumental to ensuring digital services work well for users and achieve their policy intent.

Planning, designing and conducting research, you’ll improve our understanding of the people who use our services and the designs that will best work for them. You’ll make use of methods including usability testing, contextual interviews and pop-up research. Crucially, you will communicate your insights to colleagues in engaging and impactful ways.

To join us, you’ll need a demonstrable passion for user centred design. You will bring to the role a range of relevant skills and experience spanning user research methods, stakeholder engagement and ethical research practices. You know how to research diverse audiences, to ensure digital services are accessible and inclusive. The ability to manage, execute and analyse usability testing to inform key decisions and drive improvement will be key to your success.

In addition to the rewarding nature of the role itself, you can look forward to excellent benefits including a Civil Service pension. Our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance, and the learning and development opportunities we offer will help you flourish. We value diversity and provide an open, inclusive and supportive environment to help you do your best work.
