Salary

Closing date

The CMA's Statistics and Market Research Team is expanding to meet the demand for high quantitative and qualitative research from our market and merger case teams. This presents an exciting opportunity for a Market Research Manager to be involved in high profile cases of national importance.

The CMA is a world leading government agency, responsible for ensuring that consumers get a good deal when buying goods and services, and businesses operate within the law. This involves investigating mergers between organisations, to make sure they don’t reduce competition, and

investigating entire markets if we think there are competition or consumer problems. The Statistics and Market Research Team plays a key supporting role to case teams, designing, commissioning, analysing and interpreting both quantitative and qualitative research, in order to provide suitably robust evidence to inform case decisions.

Your remit as a Market Research Adviser will primarily be to:

  • Lead on survey and qualitative research design in complex and bespoke studies
  • Work closely with research contractors to define analytical frameworks
  • Conduct data analysis and develop presentations and reports.

You will also be expected to keep up to date with developments in the research industry and to support the team in promoting fresh approaches to understanding consumer behaviour. For instance, the CMA is developing its in-house expertise on a range of different areas including behavioural insights and user research. As this continues to develop you will have the opportunity to get involved in projects in these areas.

To be considered for this key role you must have substantial experience of working on market or social research projects across a range of markets/topics and significant experience and in survey and questionnaire design. You will need to be able to evidence a proven track record in designing, developing, and managing multiple projects concurrently (ideally in a leading role), in cross-disciplinary teams and to tight deadlines. The ability to work flexibly and at pace will complete your profile.

Please note this role is also open to those with experience of or an interest in behavioural science and/or user research.

In return the CMA is a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so.

We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee well-being programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.

As an equal opportunities’ employer, we welcome suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds and recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
