We are searching for a temporary Head of Insight and Development, a fantastically diverse role which involves leading and driving forward a diverse team of experts while supporting the whole organisation to ensure we continue to stretch our ambitions and achieve our mission.

This role manages 5 key specialisms which make up the Insight and Development function. Events, Prospect Research, Stewardship, Merchandise& Fulfilment and Project& Insight Management. In addition, you will personally drive forward each facet of the Operational Planning cycle within an agile and entrepreneurial environment, whilst taking on programme management where appropriate within the wider Fundraising and Communications directorate. The purpose of this role and of the team is to maximise Alzheimer’s Research UK’s fundraised income, by driving collaborative, efficient and sustainable fundraising. This means that you and the team will be positioned to work collaboratively across the whole organisation.


You may be working in a similar role within a charity or higher education sector and may be looking to put your skills to the test in taking on a broader role and fully flexing your leadership style.


This is a 12-month FTC/Secondment, or on return of the substantive post holder whichever is earlier. This is to cover a period of maternity and we would be looking to have someone in post from the 2nd December 2019.


Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

  • Drive forward the completion of the annual business planning cycle, facilitating a collaborative process that adapts to the needs of the organisation.
  • Manage a diverse range of expert managers, providing support and guidance to ensure the highest possible standards are maintained whilst supporting the team with a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Play an active and proactive role within the wider fundraising leadership team as well as the Marketing, Data and Insight directorate, offering creative solutions to problems and proactively engaging in programme management to support the objectives of the group.


What we are looking for:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Detailed knowledge of ‘Development’ or ‘Operational’ teams is essential, with a charitable background desirable
  • You must possess strong influencing skills and be able to provide evidence of working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders across all levels.
  • Must we well organised, with strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able evidence experience of working diplomatically across a wide range of internal stakeholders
  • Adept at managing experts and motivating a diverse team with different drivers and skillsets.
  • Must be able to evidence experience of negotiating with a range of stakeholders
  • Must be tenacious and able to respond quickly to emerging issues, spotting problems and offering solutions early.
  • Experience of Programme Management.


Location: Granta Park, near Cambridge.
