Contract: 

Permanent contract with a probationary period of three months.

Hours of work:

37.5 hours per week

Holiday:

20 days per annum, plus statutory holidays and when the office closes between Christmas and New Year.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Senior Research Analyst plays a critical role in advancing CASE’s aspiration of being the global resource for educational advancement metrics, benchmarks, & analytics.   As a collaborative part of CASE’s global research team (AMAtlas team), this individual serves as a subject matter and technical expert in CASE’s London office, contributes to CASE’s thought leadership, and represents CASE in engagement with members and sector partners.  

Research Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the the primary research manager and data analyst for key surveys in the United Kingdom and Ireland, more broadly in Europe, and in the Asia-Pacific region, including the CASE Support of Education Surveys for the UK and AU/NZ, surveys of alumni relations programs, and other ongoing and special research initiatives.  Work might include survey development, data cleaning and analysis, data visualisation, report writing, and development of associated presentations.   Projects may include both quantitative and qualitative elements.
  • Collaborate with other AMAtlas global team members, including the Chief Research and Data Officer (CRDO), the Senior Director, VSE and the Lead Software Engineer, Advancement Analytics, on alignment and definition of global metrics and variables, updating of the Data Miner tool, and establishment of a global survey tool. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for CASE volunteers on select research and advancement analytics projects, this includes but is not limited to the CASE ROSS Survey committee, the CASE Europe Research Advisory Committee, within a global framework of volunteer engagement.
  • Work on CASE global AMAtlas initiatives, including alumni engagement metrics, CASE Reporting Standards and Management Guidelines, and other projects as assigned.
  • Develop thought leadership content and member resources drawing on CASE data and research, member data, and third-party sources, working with the AMAtlas team and other departments within CASE.
  • Deliver presentations on AMAtlas research findings and resources at CASE and other conferences.
  • Work with CASE’s Vice President for Development to conduct research into prospective funders for AMAtlas initiatives, identify opportunities for research partnerships aligned with CASE’s strategic priorities, and develop proposals for funded research partnerships/collaborations.
  • Serve as a technical expert providing guidance to and managing the work of staff and interns engaged in research, analytics, and reporting projects.
  • Serve as a member of the CASE London office’s Leadership Team and provide support on business data, analytics, and reporting.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required in statistics, data science, computer science, information technology, economics, business administration, or related discipline with a strong focus on research methodology; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years’ experience in research or data analyst and/or business analyst roles, including development and administration of surveys. Skills to include univariate and multi-variate statistics, data cleaning/management, visualization/dashboard creation, report automation, and scoring modeling.  Experience with qualitative research methodologies preferred.
  • Experience working with higher education institutions broadly, other non-profits, associations, or with a consultant or other vendor serving the advancement community preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Permission to work in the United Kingdom.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to conduct online research and assess and summarize complex information for a variety of different target audiences.
  • Proficiency with the following:
    • Primarily: R, Excel (in particular for data analysis/modeling purposes)
    • Secondarily: SQL, SPSS, PowerBI, SAS, Tableau, OracleBI, IBM Cognos, Google Analytics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills and a commitment to engaging, supporting, and stewarding CASE members and volunteers.
  • A demonstrated interest in advancing education in the not-for-profit sector.
  • A strong commitment to contributing to an organizational culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
  • An understanding and interest in engaging with a broad range of cultures and countries.
  • Project management, accountability, time management, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Proven ability to develop work plans and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, according to budget, deadlines, and the demands of collaboration.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team player in a rapid-response research environment, by assisting with idea formulation, research scoping, project planning, research design, and member customer response; willing to cross-train to back up other positions in the research department.
  • Focus on self-improvement to job-related skills.
  • A pro-active and can-do attitude, even when working under pressure and with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to travel internationally and work outside normal business hours when needed.
