About SPARC

Portland’s SPARC unit (Strategy, Planning, Analytics, Research + Creative) is a multidisciplinary team that develops impactful and creative strategies rooted in robust insights.

We combine research, analytics and proven processes with the expertise and instincts of account teams to ‘show the working’ behind creative ideas and ensure that they deliver measurable results against specific objectives.

We identify the right audiences, the right channels and the right message to realise each client’s version of success. We work closely with our consultants across the business to identify the insights that can inform compelling campaigns and communications strategies.

Our team is growing and we are looking for someone with a developing specialism in generating and analysing qualitative data, although our team is method-neutral and you would be given the opportunity to develop your skills in quantitative approaches as well as planning and creative.

The role

As an Associate Consultant you will be the driving force behind a wide range of projects from inception through to delivery.

The Associate Consultant will be responsible for timely and cost-effective delivery of research projects, finding pragmatic solutions to deliver optimal results.

They will be able to synthesize data from varied sources to give strategic and insightful guidance that addresses our clients’ challenges and delivers on their objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a team to to select appropriate methodologies and execute research projects to meeting specific client objectives;
  • Overseeing the account management of projects; servicing client accounts with day to day needs and ad hoc requirements in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Supporting Senior Consultants to liaise with clients and act as a key point of contact 
  • Creating interesting and innovative research materials including screeners, discussions guides and Booleans that optimally address client challenges and deliver on their objectives;
  • Conducting thorough data analysis and interpretation with a passion and drive to uncover the insights that can unlock campaign ideas;
  • Producing high quality, strategic reports that address key objectives and guide integrated communications activities;
  • Presenting research findings in a clear, confident and inspiring manner;
  • Contributing to new business pitches, proposals and presentations as needed;
  • Building relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers to build a strong agency peer network and embed the benefits of research and strategic planning across the business;
  • Supporting in the development of new research offerings and helping to introduce them to the team and the company.  

Skills & Competencies:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in research, ideally focusing on qualitative and / or social media listening techniques.
  • Ideally some experience in quantitative research techniques, or at least an interest in learning more.
  • A strategic thinker with innate curiosity and an ability to distil insights from research findings
  • A pragmatic and flexible approach to research with a desire to find innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges;
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle a number of competing demands by prioritizing effectively and managing suppliers and internal stakeholders across projects;
  • Strong attention to detail and a drive to deliver high quality outputs that tell a clear and inspiring story;
  • Highly articulate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A confident, professional and credible manner.
