At the University of Plymouth, it is in our nature to innovate – be that in our teaching or in our research. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do – pushing boundaries, isn’t just encouraged, it is expected.  If you are eager for a fresh challenge and want to build your career with a university which has ambition then you could be who we are looking for.

In recent years, all universities have experienced radical changes in the external operating environment. At Plymouth, we have recognized the critical importance of clear strategy, effective planning and high quality data in enabling us to adapt and remain competitive in this rapidly shifting landscape. But the challenges remain and our ambitions are high, and we now wish to develop further our capabilities in strategic analysis and planning, and make them leading-edge.

The Planning & Analytics Office (PAO) enables the University to formulate, implement and evaluate its strategy by informing strategic decisions, advising on strategic actions, and enabling strategic planning and change.  PAO provides critical, foundational services for a data-driven, strategy-led and collaborative culture at the University.

To help us respond to the challenges and remain competitive, PAO are looking to expand the market insight function to develop a leading-edge approach to market insight in the Higher Education sector, working within a wider team of strategists, planners, horizon scanners and data analysts.

The Market Insight Manager is responsible for driving a leading-edge market insight function, covering markets, competitors, applicants and students, to inform University strategy, marketing and recruitment activity.

You will draw on multiple sources (both external and internal) and analyse, interpret and advise on implications for institutional market positioning and development. You will work collaboratively with senior stakeholders across the University to generate, and where appropriate implement, actionable recommendations.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Tim Sydenham, Head of Planning & Analytics via email ( in order to arrange a telephone conversation.

Interviews are likely to take place week commencing 13th May 2019 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.

We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.

This is a permanent contract working 37 hours per week.

Closing date:  12 midnight, Monday 6 May 2019
