Summary of job ad

An amazing opportunity at Next to manage our Retail Customer Experience Programme and Trackers including service and brand equity. You’ll be responsible for managing internal clients and external agencies in order to optimise the impact of all studies.

Anyone with over 7 years’ experience (ideally client & agency side) can apply. You must have practical quantitative skills, be highly analytical and have the ability to understand data comfortably. Qual skills are desirable but not essential.  You will need to be a confident and engaging presenter with frequent exposure to senior directors.

You will also support by leading on ad-hoc projects when relevant. This will include selecting and commissioning external research agencies and working in conjunction with these to ensure the needs of the internal clients and the business are met.

About the team:

You’ll be part of a small but impactful team, made up of dynamic team members who deliver customer insights to drive decision making across the business.

The research department run projects across all divisions of Next including Home, Womenswear, Childrenswear and Menswear – online and retail.  With requirements coming in from all areas of the business you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference in shaping and developing business products and activities. 

Your internal clients will include people with different roles and therefore different needs e.g. Managers, Buyers, Merchandisers, Designers, International Territory Leads, UX Architects, Marketing, Social Media etc. Therefore you must be able to appropriately adjust research findings to achieve the most impact for each need. 

As part of ad-hoc support, you will also assist in management of the Next Online Customer Community in terms of the types of projects run whilst also remaining within budget. 

About the Role:

You will be responsible for managing and delivering all internal tracking surveys, including a Retail Customer Experience Programme, Brand Equity Tracker and Service Monitor amongst others.

Responsibilities involved with this include:

  • Managing internal clients; understanding expectations around key timelines, objectives and gaining access to relevant internal information.
  • Managing external third parties; ensuring they are performing as expected and in line with contractual obligations.
  • Evolve and develop all studies so that they continue to achieve best value and impact.

You will also support by leading on ad-hoc projects when relevant. This will include selecting and commissioning external research agencies and working in conjunction with these to ensure the needs of the internal clients and the business are met.

Project specifics:

  • Taking briefings from internal clients, understanding their business needs and translating these into a research brief to ensure the output exceeds expectations.
  • Agreeing qualitative and quant stimulus with internal clients and agencies.
  • Signing off all research materials for qualitative and quant projects including recruitment questionnaires, quota , sample design, discussion guides and survey questionnaires, stimulus and reports.
  • Ensuring all projects are best value for money and remains within budget.

Attending research fieldwork to provide input and feedback.

About You:-

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in Market Research
  • At least 7 years’ experience in market research ideally client side and agency side (although not essential)

Implements research excellence:

  • Enthusiasm for research and its application in regards to key business questions.
  • Practical knowledge of a range of quantitative skills, tools and techniques. Qualitative knowledge would be useful but not essential
  • Highly analytical, you’ll have the ability to absorb and understand data quickly and comfortably.
  • Eye for identifying new and relevant research methodologies.
  • Excellent organisation, problem solving, project management and prioritisation skills.
  • Effective management of third party agencies that means they are able to meet set timelines, run projects to desired criteria and deliver insight in a compelling manner.

Helps to drive business change/success:

  • Appreciation of how insight can keep Next at the cutting edge of the retail landscape.
  • Ability to apply knowledge in a fast paced commercial environment.
  • Ability to cope with demanding internal needs, frequent changes and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly extract key insights from data and translate into meaningful action.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and how learnings can be applied more broadly.

Communicates clearly and with impact:

  • A confident and engaging presenter, with the ability to speak in front of a large and potentially senior audience.
  • Ability to adapt presentation and meeting materials/agendas so that they are most relevant to the audience and achieves desired outcomes.
