Principal Social Researchers (Grade 7), London

Employer
Department for Transport
Location
London (Central), London (Greater)
Salary
£51,238 - £57,506
Closing date
3 Sep 2018

Supported by 22 different agencies and public bodies, the Department for Transport is responsible for the network that keeps the UK moving.  Social and behavioural research and evaluation play a vital role in fulfilling our remit and informing our policy decisions. After all, transport affects everyone and is integral to all aspects of society.

We’re currently prioritising research into attitudes and behaviour that will shape the future of mobility, the implications of an ageing population and trends in car ownership, although as one of our Principal Social Researchers, you could find yourself working on a range of large-scale government programmes.

From Crossrail and £multi-billion road investments through to the demographic and technological developments that will shape transport in the future, you will have a real impact on decision-making. Not only will you identify where new research is required and the kind of questions that policy makers need answering, but you’ll also design high-quality research and champion the results.

These are roles which require at least four years’ experience in evaluation, social research or market research and the ability to juggle priorities and to work successfully in large teams. You will have extensive experience in leading the design, development and specification of high quality research, as well as its commissioning, delivery and quality assurance.

Working confidently with senior stakeholders and other colleagues in the policy arena, you will have strong communication skills and be able to manage conflicting priorities. You will also demonstrate substantial knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and/or evaluation methods, confirming your ability to use evidence and analysis to make sound recommendations.

We have many decisions to make in the years ahead. Now is your chance to help shape them.
